I spent most of this past Thursday and Friday wandering around Brugge, the capital and largest city of the province of West Flanders. Having lived in Wallonia for three months now, it was so refreshing to spend some time in the North. The streets are tidier, the houses are well-kept, the shops are open, and the people are Flemish (not that the French are bad!). I was actually in Brugge for an ICRC conference on international humanitarian law, but I also quite enjoyed discovering a new city.
"Hou de liefde in ere" means cherish the love. The sign in the picture above was tucked down a back alley, and I only saw it from a distance because of the beautiful script.
