Last night, a friend and I went down to the Empire State Building hoping to capture the divided city before power was restored. We were just in time. SoPo or "South of Power," the new temporary neighborhood created by Sandy, was finally powered up late last night after a week of darkness. Hooray! I can't properly express how strange it was to walk down pitch dark streets in Manhattan and to gaze up at skyscrapers, dead in the night. It's just not New York City if the lights are out. The unedited photos in this post were taken last night from the top of the Empire State Building. The last two were taken on the dark streets near Grand Central Station looking North into the power zone.
