This is Professor Richard Macksey's amazing library filled with rare books, first editions, and original manuscripts spanning a huge range of subjects. It's one of the largest personal libraries in the state of Maryland and worth over $4 million. It's also one of my versions of heaven. This video about him reminded me of the days when being a polymath with a huge library was my only real goal in life, a time when I would forego sleep to read the classics, and when "the legal job market" would have seemed like such a silly thing to be worried about. I may have filled my head with more "useful" things since then, but I so miss being surrounded by people like Macksey who have an infectious passion for learning and real love of knowledge, which to me is a passion and love of life.
